Egan's Corn-Fed Sally

Yellow Sally Superstar

CDC and stoneflies, they go together like lamb and tuna fish, right? Well, maybe not, but most stones are quite large in relation to other commonly imitated aquatic insects. Yellow Sallies however, are small as stoneflies go. Sallies often hatch in large numbers, and in my experience accompany more selective rising fish than their larger cousins. Trout are more likely to blow up on a large Salmonfly or Golden stonefly imitation, but tend to exhibit a more careful, less aggressive take when eating yellow Sallies.

With that in mind, I set out to create a pattern quite different than a yellow stimulator or typical foam/elk hair style heavily dressed stonefly imitation. Enter the Corn-Fed Sally. Similar in design to the Corn-Fed Caddis, seen here, this Sally uses CDC, which is as close to magic as duck feathers get. Tie a few, and try them on your local waters.

I hope the Corn-Fed Sally provides summer fun you won’t soon forget. Happy angling!
