Chubby Chernobyl - Salmonfly
Cheech - May, 2022

The Chubby Chernobyl is no stranger to the Salmonfly hatch, and is a great pattern to choose for a dry-dropper rig due to its high buoyancy. This version of a Chubby is an example of a simple Salmonfly that doesn’t overuse orange as a primary color. Salmonflies vary from zone to zone, but the majority of commercial patterns overuse the bright orange color that only makes up a small portion of the overall hue of the bug. Don’t get me wrong, orange is good, but don’t let it overrun a pattern that is mostly black, dark brown, or slate gray. Vary this pattern as you see fit based on the bugs in your region and have fun tying them!
