Deadman's Drake

Tied by Madison Losee · July 2026

Born out of the demands of the Jackson Hole One Fly, The Deadman’s Drake was built for one thing: all day survival. When competition rules restrict you to just one fly for an entire day of intense fishing, that fly needs to be durable, high-floating, and impossible to lose sight of.

Originally designed to match the early fall Hecuba hatches on the Snake, this pattern has also become a go-to Green Drake platform, because let’s be honest, who doesn't love a Green Drake?

Some of the carefully selected features of this fly include...
• Hook (TMC 100SP-BL): A stout, barbless dry fly hook with a deadly sharp point that handles big fish without flexing.
• Ribbing (Ultra Dry Yarn): Adds durability to the body without adding weight
• Hackle Style (Hackle Stacker): Keeps the hackle together and secure, standing up to toothy trout eat after eat.
• High-Vis Indicator: A small "security" piece of foam bubbled with fluorescent Parapost Yarn ensures you can instantly track the fly while floating through quick water.

Whether you're competing on the Snake or just out for a weekend float, the Deadman's Drake is built to deliver all day long. And hey, word on the street is my one-day score with this fly might have actually beaten Cheech’s two-day score... but I’ll leave you to do the research on that one, hah!
