Grumpy Frumpy Green Drake

Tveryone knows that my absolute favorite dry fly to fish is the Grumpy Frumpy. It's been in my arsenal in a variety of colors for about 15 years, and for good reason... It is a fish catching machine. For the purists, we know it's really just a dumb ol' drunella, but we'll call them drakes because that's what the rest of the normal world calls them. I whipped up several in big sizes and greenish colors with really good success even for pretty picky fish! I think this pattern really hits the nail on the head to imitate a cripple or emerging drake, but at the end of the day I don't really care what the fish think it is as long as they stick their snouts in the air to gulp them down. Feel free to tweak sizes and colors to match your local bugs!
***NOTE*** The hackle isn't listed in the recipe below. I like to use any olive dyed hackle, but on this one it's an olive dyed grizzly high and dry cape that has hackles to match the size of the hook. See options here
