Live USGS gauge data is unavailable for today, but recent web intel places flows around 1,000–1,100 cfs with water temps in the 52–55°F range — ideal conditions for active trout and terrestrial fishing. Clarity is reported as gin-clear, so long leaders and precise presentations are a must.

Best Time Window
- 6 AM - 9 AM: Early midge and PMD nymphing in the flat water near the dam — low light and calm winds give you the best shot at spooky fish.
- 10 AM - 4 PM: Prime terrestrial window — ants, hoppers, and cicada patterns along shaded canyon walls and grassy banks with full sun overhead.
- 5 PM - 7 PM: Evening PMD emerger activity in the tail-outs; switch to a soft-hackle PMD or split-case emerger as the light drops off the water.
Guide's Tip
From the benchWith gin-clear water and bright summer sun, your presentation game matters more than fly selection today. Drop to a 5X or 6X tippet, keep your casts low and your approach from downstream, and target the shaded bank structure between 10 AM and 2 PM when terrestrials are most active. If you're floating Section B or C, hug the canyon walls — the big browns are stacked in the shadows waiting for an ant or hopper to land within inches of the bank. When the terrestrial bite slows in the heat of the afternoon, switch to a deep sowbug or worm rig through the main channel seams and let the current do the work.
