Live gauge data is unavailable for the Henrys Fork today, but recent web intel confirms flows are low and stable with good clarity — ideal dry fly conditions. Mostly sunny skies and a high of 76°F will warm the water nicely and push PMD and Green Drake activity through midday.
Hatch Chart
Insect Size Activity Prime Time
Pale Morning Dun (PMD) #18-20 Heavy 10 AM - 2 PM
Green Drake #12-14 Moderate 11 AM - 3 PM
Caddis #16-18 Moderate 6 PM - 8 PM
Blue Wing Olive (BWO) #20-22 Light 8 AM - 10 AM
Midge #20-22 Light 7 AM - 9 AM
Best Time Window
  • 7 AM - 9:30 AM: Early midge and BWO window on the slower flats — fish the film with small emergers before the sun gets high.
  • 10 AM - 2 PM: Prime PMD and Green Drake hatch window — hunt rising fish in the Railroad Ranch flats with dry flies and emergers.
  • 6 PM - Dusk: Evening caddis activity picks up along the banks — skate a CDC caddis through the riffles for aggressive surface takes.
Guide's Tip
From the benchOn the Henrys Fork in low, clear summer flows, presentation beats pattern every time. Position yourself well downstream of rising fish and use a reach cast with 5X or 6X fluorocarbon to lay the fly upstream of the rise form — any drag at all and these fish are done. During the PMD hatch, focus on fish that are locked into a steady rhythm; count their rise interval and time your cast to land 2-3 feet above them just before the next rise. If you're not getting refusals, you're probably not fishing fine enough.
