The Housatonic at Falls Village is running at a very fishable 456 CFS (gauge height 2.47 ft) — down from the higher flows earlier this week and wading comfortably throughout the TMA. Partly sunny skies Sunday with a high of 71°F and light north winds set up a near-perfect late-spring day, with the best dry fly action expected to build through the afternoon and into dusk.

Midge #20–24 🟢 Active Early Morning
Best Time Window
  • Early Morning (6–9 AM): Streamer swings with Jig Bugger or Mini Crayfish through deep runs; midge nymphing in slow tailouts
  • Midday–Afternoon (11 AM–4 PM): Caddis and BWO hatches building; nymphing with Straggle Stone and Frenchie through seams; dry fly action on caddis patterns for rising fish
  • Evening Dusk (5–8 PM): Prime dry fly window — March Brown/Grey Fox in the afternoon, Sulphur hatch firing at last light; downsize to 6X and fish Parachute BWO or Corn-fed Caddis CDC in the feeding lanes
Guide's Tip
From the benchWith flows dropping to a very wadeable 456 CFS, the Housy is fishing as well as it has all spring — trout are spread throughout the river rather than stacked in the deepest pools. Start your morning with a tungsten nymph rig (Straggle Stone anchor, Frenchie or Perdigon trailer) through the inside seams and tailouts, then switch to a streamer swing at first light in the deep runs. As the afternoon sun warms things up, watch for caddis activity building from midday onward and be ready to switch to a Corn-fed Caddis CDC or Parachute BWO when you see noses — the evening sulphur and March Brown windows at dusk are shaping up to be the best of the season so far, so don't leave the water early.
