Best Time Window
- 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM: Midge and BWO nymph window — fish subsurface with Zebra Midge and Pheasant Tail before the PMD hatch kicks off
- 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM: Prime PMD dry-fly action — pods of rising fish on mid-river seams; Corn-fed Caddis and Split Case PMD nymph both producing
- 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM: Afternoon caddis flight — switch to Corn-fed Caddis (Olive or Tan) as egg-layers skate the surface; expect the most aggressive surface feeding of the day
Guide's Tip
From the benchWith flows at 3,130 cfs and water temps at 56°F, the Mo is in prime shape — position your boat or wade the inside seams where PMD nymphs concentrate before the hatch. Watch for the first rising fish around 11 AM as PMDs begin to emerge; switch to a Corn-fed Caddis or Parachute BWO as the hatch intensifies and fish start keying on the surface. The slight green tint from the Dearborn is actually helping — fish are a touch less spooky than usual, so don't be afraid to get closer to working pods. On this sunny, calm forecast, expect the best dry-fly window from 1–6 PM with fish feeding aggressively right through the evening caddis flight.
