Best Time Window
- 6 AM - 10 AM: Prime nymphing and early dry-fly window before heat sets in; BWO and midge activity peaks.
- 10 AM - 1 PM: PMD hatch in full swing — watch for rising fish in moderate current and match with emergers and dries.
- 7 PM - Dusk: Evening caddis activity brings fish back to the surface; swing soft-hackles or dead-drift CDC caddis in riffles.
Guide's Tip
From the benchWith an 86°F high and full sun today, your best fishing is done before 10 AM — get on the water at first light and target the riffled seams and deeper runs with nymphs fished tight to the bottom. As the PMD hatch fires mid-morning, switch to emerger patterns in the upper column and watch for subtle sipping rises in the slower glides. During the midday heat, move to shaded stretches and fish terrestrials along grassy banks — that's where the bigger browns will be holding. If you can stick it out to evening, the caddis activity will reward you with some of the best dry-fly action of the day.
