Henry's Fork

Flow through Box Canyon is reduced to about 330 cfs.  That low is rough on hard sided boats, so wading (or rafts) is recommended. Early AM trico spinner falls, later mahogany dun and BWO activity  can reward stealthy approaches and the use of long, fine leaders.

Upcoming killing frosts are limiting the time terrestrial insects will be around in number, so keep hopper, ant, and black beetle patterns in that fly box for now.  Use a studied approach, make precise casts and use long, fine tippets.  Weed growth is beginning to be insignificant thanks to fewer hours of daylight and colder water temperatures.

Fishing streamers between Warm River and Ashton Reservoir is the best strategy for encountering migrating brown trout. Below Ashton Dam, flow is about 950 cfs. The river remains friendly to fly fishers during day time hours and low wind conditions.  Whether you choose top water fishing during BWO, mahogany dun or terrestrial insect activity or pitching streamers during times of good overhead cover, you should have a good experience.
