Henry's Fork
Flow the top of Box Canyon is reduced to about 55 cfs. Flow below the Buffalo River confluence improves it significantly. For Box Canyon, streamer patterns in deep holes and runs remain the best way for action. Try fishing nymph patterns deep (zebras, princes, etc. ). At Last Chance-Harriman, BWOs and mahogany duns are decreasing in number and so are fish rising to feed on them. Looks like the top water fishing is winding down for the season. Overnight thin ice forms along shorelines, but so far daytime warmth melts it away.
From lower Mesa Falls to Ashton Reservoir pitching streamers to encounter migrating brown trout is the best way to have action. Top water fishing there is also diminishing to just midges life cycle patterns and BWO life cycle patterns for brief midday periods. Below Ashton Dam, the river remains friendly to fly fishers during day time hours. Flow is around 620 cfs above Chester Dam, and about 920 cfs below it. Very early or late in the day or during unsettled weather offers some good chances of successful streamer presentation to migrating brown trout and foraging rainbows.
