Henry's Fork
Flow through Box Canyon is reduced to about 65 cfs. Flow below the Buffalo River confluence is about 250 cfs, but that’s not enough to keep hard sided boats from bumping and scraping along through Box Canyon but making for great wading. Streamer patterns in deep holes and runs are the name of the game here. Larger trout in the Last Chance- Harriman area will begin migrating to the deeper runs and holes in Box Canyon.
With colder air and shorter daytimes terrestrial insect activity is down because of a killing frost happening a few nights ago. BWOs and mahogany duns are active during unsettled weather like that coming up next weekend. Warm River to Ashton is best fished with large streamer patterns for migrating brown trout. Below Ashton Dam, the river remains friendly to fly fishers during day time hours. Flow is around 650 cfs above Chester Dam, and about 750 cfs below it.
There is active BWO, midge and terrestrial insect activity for good top water fishing in both sections. Very or late in the day or during unsettled weather offers some good chances of successful streamer presentation. The new Fun Farm Bridge construction is nearing completion and will return convenient access to the river below Chester Dam.
