Henry's Fork
Flow at the top of Box Canyon is reduced to about 55 cfs. Flow below the Buffalo River confluence improves. Best fishing in the upper river is in Box Canyon, streamer patterns in deep holes and runs remain the best way for action. Try fishing nymph patterns deep (zebras, princes, etc. ). At Last Chance-Harriman, top water fishing is winding down for the season. Harriman State Park section closes to fishing on December 1st. There will be midge activity, sometimes prolific, throughout the winter at Last Chance.
From lower Mesa Falls to Ashton Reservoir pitching streamers to encounter migrating brown trout is the best way to have action. Top water fishing there is also diminishing to just midge life cycle patterns and BWO life cycle patterns for brief midday periods. Below Ashton Dam, the river remains friendly to fly fishers during daytime hours. Flow is around 620 cfs above Chester Dam, and about 1100 cfs below it. Very early or late in the day or during unsettled weather offers some good chances of successful streamer presentation to migrating brown trout and foraging rainbows.
