Henry's Fork
Flow through Box Canyon is reduced to about 800 cfs. Early AM spinner falls, later flavs, some speckled duns, tiny PMDs during daytime, and caddis activity during evenings give some top water fishing. Be sure to have hopper and black beetle patterns in that fly box. Use a studied approach, make precise casts and use long, fine tippets. Fishing wet flies is difficult because of weed growth. Water in the canyon between Warm River and Ashton Reservoir is warming to near dangerous levels for salmonids. Below Ashton Dam, the river remains unfriendly to fly fishers during day time hours. High, around 1750 cfs, and warm, slightly discolored waters from Ashton Reservoir are the reasons. Very early or late in the day offers some improvement to this condition.
