Henry's Fork
Increasing daylight hours and warmer weather mean water temperatures are increasing. Near Pinehaven these are approaching 70 Deg. F. Low flow, increased water temperatures and plant photosynthesis all contribute to lowering dissolved oxygen which slows salmonid activity. How much ahead the hatches will occur depends on location on the river. Fishing between Ashton and Chester Dams is very good with BWO and March brown mayflies, caddisflies, and midges providing responses from trout throughout the water column. Streamer patterns are most effective during low-light and stormy periods. With the early season insect hatches progress giant stonefly nymphs have started moving toward banks and a few may be flying at certain locations. That means nymph patterns for these should now be in that fly box. Flow below Ashton Dam is about 990 cfs and about the same below Island Park Dam. Flow at St. Anthony is about 850 cfs. There are plenty of wading and boating anglers present.
