Henry's Fork

Flows through Box Canyon are steady at approximately 450 cfs and are expected to fluctuate throughout the season depending on runoff and dam management. These moderate flows are perfect for wade anglers and drift boats. Water temperatures on the upper river are ideal right now, promoting healthy development of recently hatched trout fry and setting the stage for a strong early season.

The Warm River to Ashton stretch is particularly active, with both giant salmonflies and golden stones hatching. This reach is popular right now, expect company, but walking downstream from Riverside Campground can give you access to less-pressured water and fish actively feeding on adult stoneflies. Focus on fishing riffle edges, foam lines, and slow seams where trout ambush large insects.

At Chester Dam, the fishing slows due to cold and turbid inflow from the Fall River, which can suppress insect activity and reduce visibility. Your best bet remains upstream of the confluence where clarity and insect emergence are better.

Recent rain and snowmelt in the upper watershed have bolstered flows and rejuvenated spring conditions, setting up the river for a strong transition into early summer fishing. Look for improving conditions and more consistent hatches as the weather stabilizes.
