Henry's Fork

The Henry’s Fork section in Harriman State Park opened to fly fishing Monday.    PMDs are on the water, and their activity peaks from mid-morning to midafternoon. Green drakes are present with their peek activity coming soon.  Calm, overcast days are best for these emergences making top water fishing currently some of the best in the area. Water conditions are excellent From Box Canyon on downstream. Be ready to accept crowded conditions on the river from Last Chance to Pinehaven, so bring your diplomacy and tolerance. Big stonefly numbers have passed through Box Canyon but trout there will key on patterns for them presented along banks.   A few green drakes are on the river below Ashton Dam with PMDs being significant. Best time to fish is late AM to afternoon hours.  Because of the Harriman section opening and the top water fishing there and at Last Chance, fewer fly fishers are on the lower river compared to earlier this month.  Major evening caddis activity is ongoing throughout the river.  Because of minor springtime flows out of Henry’s Lake, fishing success in the river within the Flat Ranch section will be slow this year. Flow at Box Canyon is about 900 cfs, below Ashton Dam is about 1300 cfs and about 1230 cfs at St. Anthony.
