Henry's Fork
Harriman opened to fly fishing on Sunday, fly fishing crowds are here and water conditions look pretty good for now. Fish seem a bit finicky in the low water. PMDs coming on with spinners providing the best action. Caddis are providing good PM actions, with the green drakes arriving soon.
With about 750 cfs flowing through Box Canyon, hard sided boat bottoms are not quite as victimized. Downstream low water remains to Ashton. About 1500 cfs is flowing below Ashton Dam, so no problem there. Giant stone flies are diminished with goldens still active in some locations. Some of the best dry fly fishing is during evening caddis activity. It’s going to be a low water summer with low water quality, so your best dry fly fishing will be during this month.
The lower river is fishing well. Green drakes are on the water. Evening caddis activity provides good end-of-the–day dry fly action. Some goldens are still around. Up and down the river, patience and diplomacy are some of the most important qualities for individual to have during this time of famed fishing. Whether it be at launch sites or fishing hot spots, make qualities such as these are in full play. BTW; Chester backwaters have had some PM grey drakes.
