Henry's Fork

Fly fishing crowds are on the upper river, and water conditions look pretty good for now.  Green Drakes are during the late AM into the afternoon throughout. Brown drakes are emerging with the lower part of the Harriman Park section being best. Use Wood Road 16 to approach the fabled evening emergence. PMDs are coming on with spinners providing the best action.   A few flavs are beginning to show up. Caddis are providing good evening top water action. Dry-dropper rigs ( ie dry golden stone pattern over rubber leg pattern) are good choices. Don’t overlook pitching a streamer pattern of choice into pockets and the head of deep water sections there and just below Coffee Pot Rapids.

Warm River to Ashton holds lots of boats as well as wading anglers around launch sites. Mostly pocket water, so try the same dry pattern–dropper rigs as in Box Canyon.  As with the upper river, have PMD life cycle patterns in the fly box. About 1900 cfs is flowing below Ashton Dam, so no problem with boats there, so they are numerous down to Chester Dam as are wading anglers.  A few goldens are still active in some locations. Some of the best dry fly fishing is during evening caddis activity and during spinner falls.   Some green drakes are still on the water.  Chester backwaters still has some PM grey drakes.   Patience and diplomacy are some of the most important qualities for individuals fishing the whole river.
