With 1600 cfs flowing through, Box Canyon is tough to wade. Try dead-drifting streamer pattern and dry/ dropper rigs close to banks.  Streamer patterns presented during low light conditions are effective. Bring caddis life cycle patterns for evening fishing.  Trout in the Last Chance-Harriman reach remain tough as ever to fool. All the equipment and approach information we gave in the last reports applies here and will for weeks to come. Submerged weed growth is ongoing making it difficult to land fish in places. Consider this section to be “graduate school for fly fishers.” Remember, using hard bottom boats down the Lower Mesa Falls slide is illegal. Only rubber rafts & pontoon boats are legal, but this means fewer folks fishing this beautiful section of the river on down to Warm River.  From Warm River to Ashton pocket water behind rocks produces best action through using a dry pattern over something like a bead head nymph of choice.  Hoppers are appearing along banks during afternoon hours. With flow around 2250 cfs, Ashton Dam to Chester has little top water fishing except for some AM spinners and evening caddis.  Warm days mean warm water so wading wet is a possibility.
