Henry's Fork
Flow through Box Canyon is about 1600 cfs (wade with care!) and is likely to vary season long. Streamers and dry-dropper rigs are best there. Big stoneflies and drakes are pretty much gone. PMDs and Flavs are out in good numbers but are picky. So long, fine tippets, patience, careful wading, and precise presentation are the name of the game. AM spinner falls can be a pleasant and productive time to fish.
With our bright, hot weather, terrestrial insect season is coming on sooner than usual. From Riverside to Ashton pocket waters produce the best fishing. Dry-droppers (try an adult golden stone pattern over a rubber leg pattern of choice). The river is warming below Ashton Dam, but flows are up to around 2000 cfs. Fall River is no longer putting in run-off but a moderate amount of clear water thanks to upstream irrigation demands PMDs, Flavs and sallys are hatching, and the best time for enjoying their activity is early in the day. Lower River crowds are dwindling somewhat because fishing on the South Fork is turning on.
