Main Stem Snake River
Increased flow for irrigation has slowed fly fishing somewhat in the river above American Falls Reservoir where diversions cause changing flow levels throughout. This will happen throughout the irrigation season and keep the best fly fishing through using wet patterns. Boating is the safest and most effective way to fish. Streamer and woolly bugger patterns on sink tip lines with stout leaders are best producers under these conditions. All boat launch ramps are open. Flow below American Falls Dam is about 11500 cfs, so wading is dangerous. This flow amount is normal for the date and ideal for boating and makes all launch sites easily used. Small mouth bass are present in the river below American Falls dam. Use woolly bugger, popper and craw dad patterns to attract them.
