Small Streams

Use USGS flow gages to follow high country run-off on those streams having them.  Most snow below 7000 ft in elevation is gone meaning low land run-off has peaked. Warm River around the campground hosts a good BWO hatch during wind free afternoons.  Birch Creek is a great stream to take that youngster fishing. Safe, adjacent to a well-maintained highway (State Route 28), and hosting many trout. The use of traditional nymph and midge life cycle patterns offers some of the best early season fishing in the area.  Trout (rainbows, brookies and a few browns) may be small, but they are very active.
