Small Streams
Use USGS flow gages on those streams having them to follow high country run-off. Warm River around the campground hosts a good BWO hatch during wind free afternoons. Birch Creek is a great stream to take that youngster fishing. It is safe, easily approached, adjacent to a well-maintained highway (State Route 28), and hosting abundant trout. The use of traditional nymph and midge life cycle patterns offers some of the best early season fishing in the area. Trout ranging to smaller sizes (rainbows, brookies and a few browns) are hosted and are always foraging. It takes a long, monotonous drive, but the Little Wood River west of Carey is in fishing shape with decreasing run-off. Wet flies and streamer patterns are producing some good fishing results there.
