Small Streams

Back country roads are opening up. The Willow Creek Road to Kepps Crossing is open, but Willow Creek is high and discolored.  The Blackfoot Reservoir Road is open allowing access to the river below the reservoir.

If you do not mind driving about 150 miles from Eastern Idaho through trout-less country, the Little Wood River, a classic desert stream, (much less crowded than Silver Creek) is flowing at about 150 cfs.  That means there is still some run-off discolor in the river, but under these conditions, resident browns and rainbows will take anything that resembles an earthworm (annelid). The best location to try is the Bear Tracks Taylor Williams Preserve just a few miles west of Carey via US Highway 26.  The river on the preserve is catch and release, no bait, and barbless hooks.  Brown and rainbow trout predominate.
