Small Streams

With warmer weather our small streams are shaping up for good fishing. Exceptions are those that begin in high country. Another exception is the lower Blackfoot River below the dam is relatively high with irrigation water (about 600 cfs) making wading difficult.  Runoff is mostly gone from Robinson Creek and its famed series of hatches has begun with caddis, yellow sallies, and giant stoneflies  starting with more to come soon.  Warm River has been in good fishing condition for months and continues to offer good top water action from mayfly and caddisfly activity. The Bear Creek Road is open through to the campground and trail head. Idaho’s Salt River tributaries (Jackknife, Tincup, Stump, Crow Creeks) are also rounding into fishing shape. Birch Creek’s family fishing area and upstream springs remain great locations for family fly fishing action. Beaver, West Camas and Cottonwood Creeks hosting brook trout and hatchery stocked rainbows are other small streams offering good family fishing action.
