Small Streams
On the first of July several streams will open to fishing because cutthroat spawning has peaked on these. Here are some of the major streams to open: The Blackfoot River drainage above the Reservoir, Willow Creek tributaries, and South Fork tributaries below Palisades Dam ( Burns, Palisades, Pine, Rainey). The Bear Creek Road is open through to the campground and trail head. Idaho’s Salt River tributaries (Jackknife, Tincup, Stump, Crow Creeks) are in good fishing shape. McCoy Creek is in good dry fly condition with PMDs, some golden stones, and caddis activity resulting in feeding trout. Birch Creek’s family fishing area and upstream springs remain great locations for family fly fishing action. Beaver, West Camas and Cottonwood Creeks host brook trout and hatchery stocked rainbows are other small streams offering good family fishing action.
