Small Streams

High country run-off has just about ended ( excepting Bitch Creek). So the number of small streams that are in fishing condition is almost endless, and nearly all can provide a great outing. Such as Little Warm River, Birch Creek, and Antelope Creek, can provide a great family outing with eager brook trout responding to any small fly pattern.

Idaho’s Salt River tribs (Jackknife, Tincup, Stump and Crow Creeks) host cutthroat ranging to near trophy size and a few brown trout. Robinson Creek hosts brook, brown, cutthroat and brown trout as well as whitefish making it a unique fishery.

McCoy Creek, top to bottom, is special for cutthroat trout. The Bear Creek bypass road is open, but not for trailers. If you drop into Teton River Canyon (dam site, Spring Hollow, etc.), do so with extreme caution because this is the time of year when rattlesnakes shed skins and are particularly aggressive.

Warm River just below its spring is always a great choice to fish especially during the late afternoon hour caddis hatch and spinner falls. Big stoneflies are in Fall River Canyon, boating to where they are active is possible, but know where irrigation diversions are located.
