Small Streams

Here are some of the major streams to open for fishing on the first of July: the Blackfoot River drainage above the Reservoir, Willow Creek tributaries, and South Fork tributaries below Palisades Dam ( Burns, Palisades, Pine, Rainey creeks). The Bear Creek Road is open through to the campground and trail head. Idaho’s Salt River tributaries (Jackknife, Tincup, Stump, Crow Creeks) are in good fishing shape. McCoy Creek is in good dry fly condition with PMDs, some golden stones, and caddis activity resulting in feeding trout.  The Little lost River drainage is good fishing conditions with PMDs, yellow sallies and afternoon caddis attracting trout to feed. The best fishing on these streams will be over the next few weeks as they tend to warm significantly as mid-summer approaches. Birch Creek’s family fishing area and upstream springs remain great locations for family fly fishing action.
