Small Streams

We have reports of fly fishing equipment theft from vehicle and unattended campsites. Most of this action occurs while folks are not nearby. Back country fishing areas are most prone to this action, but vehicles parked in areas along major streams are also targeted.  So be wise and lock all valued equipment in tamper resistant locked vehicles.  If you are in a campsite or gearing up, and vehicles tend to observe your actions, jot down their registration plate numbers.

Afternoon Western Green Drake activity is making Big Elk Creek a prime location for fly fishers.   Kokanee are also present and in a spawning mode. Understand that snagging these fish is illegal. Plain close officers patrol the creek, and if you see snagging activity, collect details or leave such on their vehicles or pass such on to any IDF&G officer present. When air warms, ant and hopper patterns work well.

Teton River is very warm in the lower section and canyon. Bitch Creek has the best fishing in the drainage if you add tranquility along with fishing. Early AM and evenings are best times to fish the river in the basin. Robinson Creek is down to base level with warm water in canyon reaches.

Warm River just below the springs is where caddis and PMDs prevail with terrestrial insects coming on. Water in the Blackfoot River remains extremely warm and low. Medicine Lodge Creek and Little Lost River have low water conditions.  Palisades Creek is fishing well, but is becoming crowded as anglers move in from streams with warm, low waters.
