Small Streams
Cool nights and diminishing daylight have reduced the choice of fishing small streams down to a few being worth a visit. This time of the season trout in many small tributaries move downstream seeking better overhead cover into such as Warm, Teton, and Fall Rivers. These rivers remain good choices to try with trout foraging from late morning to evening. The fall mayfly (BWO) emergence is happening on each although being somewhat minor on Fall River. Terrestrial insect and afternoon caddis activity will help keep top water fly fishing going until around sunset. Early day air temperatures are dropping and sunrise is coming later taking longer to warm water and surroundings. Thus late morning is a best time to begin fishing on these streams. Moving toward evening, consider switching to streamer patterns to take advantage of increased overhead cover.
