South Fork
With Palisades Reservoir at 11% of capacity, lower flows are certain in the river for the rest of the fishing season. Now is a great time to fish the South Fork. Fall colors are present, flows are near 7200 cfs at Irwin (about 7500 cfs, at Heise, 4500 cfs at Lorenzo) making riffles more numerous, wading safer, and fewer boats. Hopper/dropper rigs, ant, beetle and hopper patterns presented along vegetated banks are still producing day time fishing success. Recent stormy weather has helped BWO and mahogany dun activity. Keep caddis life cycle patterns in that fly box for good top water fishing during evenings. Slower, deep waters and around overhead cover are the best locations to presenting streamer patterns during evenings and early mornings.
