Southwestern Montana
All hoot owl closures are finished. Brown trout migrations provide the most interesting fishing in the upper Madison River drainage. Streamers run deep into runs and holes bring the most action especially early and late in the day and during unsettled weather. Between the Park boundary and the Madison Arm of Hebgen Reservoir and between Hebgen and Quake Lakes are hot spots for action. Shorter daytime hours and the cooling atmosphere are diminishing terrestrial insect activity. In the no boating section below Quake Lake BWOS, a few mahogany duns and some late day caddis provide some top water action.
