Spruce flies are out in good numbers in forested sections of the Madison below Quake Lake and the Gallatin River. Patterns for these are available, but the elk hair caddis ( size 14) is as good as any  for simulating these insects.  Hebgen Lake’s Madison Arm features gulpers when winds subside. Speckled duns, tricos, and hatching damsel flies are the reasons.
