Southwestern Montana

Gulper activity is fading on Hebgen Lake’s Madison Arm. Stripping streamer and leech patterns there is improving because brown and rainbow trout are moving through to travel into the park spawning areas. Trico and terrestrial insect patterns are producing in the Madison River between Quake and Hebgen Lakes. Below Quake Lake, in the no boating section, traditional dry patterns and terrestrial insect patterns (be sure to include flying ant patterns) produce during warm mid days.  Caddis are most active during later afternoons.  Fish the Gallatin River with a variety of dry fly patterns during warm sunny times in midday. Later in the afternoon switch to caddis life cycle patterns.
