Southwestern Montana

Gulper activity is fading fast on Hebgen Lake’s Madison Arm. Stripping streamer and leech patterns there is improving because brown and rainbow trout are moving through to travel into the Park spawning areas. Unsettled weather is bringing out BWOs from the river in the no boating section below Quake Lake. Traditional dry patterns and terrestrial insect patterns (be sure to include flying ant patterns) produce there during warm mid days.  Caddis are most active during later afternoons.  Fish the Gallatin River with a variety of dry fly patterns during warm sunny times.  Presenting nymph patterns of choice produce best during mornings. Later in the afternoon switch to caddis life cycle patterns.
