Still Waters

Road conditions and weather are important considerations when travelling to many still waters now.  Midge pupa patterns suspended under an indicator are a best bet for action anywhere. Find the taking depth first. Some of our higher elevation still waters could begin icing over soon. Sand Creek ponds close to fishing on December 1st.

Crystal Springs Pond is a good winter fly fishing choice because it is normally ice free.   Sited next to the State salmon hatchery south of Springfield in Bingham County, it is surrounded by well-maintained walking trails with back cast room. Thus there is no need to launch motorless boats and flotation devices.  It is annually stocked by IDFG but has holdover rainbow trout of up to several pounds offering challenges to fly fishers presenting streamer and nymph patterns.
