Still Waters

Before warm water and mid-season drawdown happen, now is the time to fish our Irrigation Reservoirs which are mainly in southeast Idaho. Chesterfield and Hawkins Reservoir are open to fly and spin fishing and bait can be used. Daniels, Springfield and Twenty-Four Mile Reservoirs are managed as trophy fisheries so have barbless hook, no bait, length restrictions, motorized boating restrictions on each.  Fishing strategies are similar for each.  Midge pupa patterns work well on all  these waters when wind is absent. Find the taking depth, after they are suspended under an indicator, and head for shallow waters where aquatic vegetation is increasing. Do not overlook damsel fly nymph patterns. They, too, are effective near vegetation and fished in the same manner this time of the season.  When windy conditions prevail switch to sink tip  or full sink lines to present leech ad woolly bugger patterns.
