Still Waters

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDF&G) has stocked about 1200 very large inefficient spawner rainbow trout from the Riverence Hatchery into Mackay Reservoir. Some of these fish have also been released in Lemhi River drainage ponds including Hayden, Hyde and Johnson Ponds. In total, 3000 of these spawners have been released into Upper Snake Region waters.  30,000 Hatchery catchable size rainbow trout of smaller sizes have been stocked or will be stocked in regional waters. The locations and amounts of these releases can be seen on the IDF&G news release web page.  Midge pupa patterns are working well on all our still waters. Find the taking depth, after they are suspended under an indicator, and head for shallow waters where aquatic vegetation is increasing. Do not overlook damsel fly nymph patterns. They, too, are effective near vegetation this time of the season.
