Yellowstone Park

Because the Madison River drainage is closed to fishing, fly fishers are heading to other streams to fish. Many are on the Yellowstone River just below the lake where dry fly fishing is good. PMDs, tricos, some golden stoneflies, green drake spinners, PMDs, and caddis are the reasons. Good numbers of fly fishers are trying the Lamar River, Slough and Soda Butte Creeks where roadside meadow areas offer good fishing for those using terrestrial insect patterns and later in the day caddis life cycle patterns.  Beware that Lamar River water will cloud up when thunder showers happen in its upper sections. Streams with meadow reaches in Fall River Basin offer even better top water fishing. You have to walk a ways to get to these, but add tranquility to the great fishing.
