Yellowstone Park

Yellowstone Park has closed the Firehole, Gibbon and Madison River as well as their tributaries to all fishing because water temperatures have reached levels that are hazardous to salmonid existence. They reserve the right to do the same for any stream within when water temperatures reach that level. All this applies to streams and not ponds and lakes.

Right now, Beula and Riddle Lakes offer the fastest still water fishing in the Park. Beula is a 2.5 mile while Riddle is about 1.2 miles. Cinnamon caddis, speckled duns and damsel fly life cycle patterns work well, and do not overlook using the old but venerable renegade in (size 14). The Yellowstone River just below the lake features good top water fishing with caddis, green drakes, PMDs and golden stones emerging. The wind blows in a few big stoneflies from below.  Soda Butte Creek and the Lamar River offer good top water fishing with Caddis, PMDs and hoppers attracting trout.
