Yellowstone Park

Madison River drainage closure to fishing is lifted. Now that water temperatures have moved downward from those dangerous to salmonid all park streams are open to fishing. The Firehole River is offering great autumn fishing With BWO and white miller life cycle and soft hackled patterns providing action.  All Park still waters are open to fishing. NE corner still has best “close to the road” fishing. The Lamar River has cleared up but can discolor any time because of thunder showers. With warming weather terrestrial insect patterns will give the best chances for action on the Lamar and Slough and Soda Butte Creeks. Hecuba (drake mackerel) is beginning to appear on these streams. Top water fishing on the Yellowstone River (try Nez Perce Ford area) is holding up well.  There are fewer anglers on Fall River Basin streams than any roadside water in the Park and terrestrial insect  populations will remain abundant there until a killing frost.
