A few years ago I was fishing during the Salmon Fly Hatch on the Henry's Fork and my wife was taking photographs of the Salmon flies hatching. She wanted me to place one of the live Salmon Fly Nymphs next to the flies in my box. Upon doing that, I realized that that Salmon Fly Nymph was 3x bigger than the biggest pattern I had in that box. Though they were effective patterns, I felt the need to find a bigger, bulkier, more robust pattern to fish with. I started experimenting with materials and came to find that most of the chenille's when placed on a large hook still created too slender of a body. Leading me to use a different material all together that I find much more effective in creating bulk. I also searched for a material that I could use to mimimic the hardness of stone flies and have been able to find something that I think looks much more realistic than your typical stone fly pattern. It can be tied in multiple colors to match whatever hatch you're fishing.I along with a few of my buddies have used this pattern on the Henry's Fork, Snake, South Fork, Provo and several other rivers and had great success.
