Blinking Blob
Cheech - July 2025

A few years back, while working on my Stillwater skills, I was fishing a lake full of eager rainbow trout when I discovered a fly that seemed like kryptonite to them. I was stripping a blob pattern on a parabolic fly line when I noticed something strange—the fly looked like it was changing colors. At first, it appeared to be just one solid color, but when I paused the retrieve, a different color seemed to flash through. It was almost like the fly was blinking underwater with every strip. In this video, I’ll break down exactly what was happening and how that flashing effect—caused by a darker color covering a lighter one—triggered aggressive strikes from the fish. They crushed it!
