It's always good to have a chironomid pattern that doesn't take a long time to tie but can catch fish all the same. A few years back when I saw these Hemingway synthetic quills, I gave them a try and found out they are pretty durable and also realistic. I've ended up using them in a lot of my midge and chironomid patterns. This fly has been probably my most productive chironomid pattern over the last two seasons. I've fished it deep with bigger beads and it does well closer to the surface due to it's shiny appearance in the water. The holographic quills here provide a great effect on the fly. I've been using two hooks on this pattern. The Hanak 230 in #14 and #12 as well as the Fulling Mill Heavyweight Champ in #12 and #10's. You can fish these under an indicator, on an intermediate line or (our choice) a midge tip line. Anyway, these are easy to tie and they catch fish like crazy. Give it a try!
