Foam Arse Blob

Alright, I'll start off by claiming the obvious... This fly is NOT a difficult fly to tie, but we thought it was worth showing due to the uniqueness of the "jelly fritz" that is used to tie it. It's really no mystery in the UK, but here in the USA, it seems that we have grown content to kick and twitch an olive krystal bugger while passing directly over fish, and giving the occasional twitch. This "Jolling" (trolling with slight jerks) is going to catch you some fish for sure, but if you really want to get technical about fishing stillwaters, it's highly recommended to research loch style fishing and some of the patterns and methods used in the UK and competitions worldwide. This post really isn't to break down all of the different methods you can use to present a buoyant fly, but I'll share my favorite. Type 5 full sink line -> 5 feet fo 3x to a weighted leech -> 5 feet of 3x to a smaller chironomid or nymph -> 5 feet of 3x to a FAB or a Booby. This creates a leader setup that is deep and ascends up toward the buoyant fly. The long leader allows me to fish multiple depths of water at the same time and can an absolutely deadly way to target fish. There are lots and lots of different colors of fritz, so tie some and see what your local fish prefer!
