Ben's Weedless Fire Tiger Minnow

Tied by Ben Gantt · August 2026

The Fire Tiger Weedless Minnow was born out of a necessity to get a fly deep into thick, weeded areas for largemouth bass, and it has since brought more than a few largies to the boat. Because this pattern is exceptionally lightweight, it offers versatile presentation options. It can easily be thrown on a floating line to swim just below the surface, or paired with a sink tip line to get the fly down when fish are holding off deeper weed edges.
The true magic of the weedless design relies on the Ahrex PR378 GB Swimbait hook, custom-designed by legendary streamer tyers Gunnar Brammar and Paul Monaghan. In fact, this entire pattern draws heavy inspiration from Brammar, whose tying videos remain an incredible learning tool for any aspiring streamer tyer.
When it comes to tying difficulty, this fly is rather straightforward, requiring a minimalist list of only three materials. However, the pattern will challenge the tyer to make the absolute most out of the hook's short shank, making it a fun and rewarding addition to both your vise and your fly box.
