T
he Minty Jig Streamer is honestly one of my go-to flies all year long, particularly when I'm fishing rivers with deep holes and I need my setup to absolutely scream toward the bottom. I know it's not some fancy new invention—it's similar to a classic jig streamer—but I've made some key tweaks that make it even more deadly: added weight, a collar, and, most importantly, a tri-colored tail.
Forget messing around; I load this thing up so it gets down fast to where the fish are holding. The real big difference, though, is the tail: Like the Original “Thin Mint” I feel adding three different colors of marabou to the tail gives the fly variation and movement that looks waymore life-like than a solid color. Plus, since it's a jig style, it rides hook-up, letting me bounce it right on the bottom of those deep slots without constantly snagging and losing my rig.
