I have been tying flies for over 25 years and decided to jump into the world of flymphs. I built a Clarks Dubbing block and started to build my own dubbing brushes that would be used to tie the various Vern “Pete” Hidy flies. Silk thread absorbs wax the best, so I ordered the Ephemera thread. The thread retains the wax and my dubbing brushes have been excellent! Tied up many patterns including Medium & Dark Hares Ear, Tups Indispensable and March Brown flymphs to name a few.
Fly tying is a winter hobby for me. I used it once so far and I like it.
I’ve been tying a long time but never with silk. It’s been interesting. One thing I know for sure is takes a Very delicate hand. So I’m learning a new skill.
