When I compared it with my previous skins. This one is between a 3 and a 4. Not a Grade 1.
This is my second Partridge Full Pelt from FFF.
First was natural and exceptional. This colored pelt is beautifully dyed. The chartreuse color is even throughout. I was skeptical at first but with the great color & crazy amount & sizes of varied feathers in perfect condition it is well worth the cost. I’ve tied a couple dozen soft hackles with it & the bit of color adds a unique look to them. Will see what the trout think in the coming weeks. Already thinking about more colors when FFF has them available. Absolutely no regrets.
This full skin is awesome, very even dyed colour and very little loss of any feathers from undue care or folding during drying. I wish I had bought a couple colours especially considering how hard it is to find these dyed skins in Canada and shipping costs opulent have increased!
This is not directed @ FFF, but Hareline. The brown version I got pretty much is no bueno. It’s an odd color brown, really a burgundy, and a lot of the small neck feathers are sticky & a bit matted. I don’t fault FFF, at all, but Hareline for poor QC. Don’t think I’ve ever complained about a Hareline product. Until now.
Many years ago, Hareline brand offered small dyed Hungarian Partridge pelts that were really good, but they were not available for very long and tied primarily smaller sized wets, spiders, and flymphs. I've been looking for this burnt orange color for a long time and was surprised to see what a great dye job that they did on it. The skin is nice and pliable, and the feathers look and tie great ! Best of all, it's a full sized pelt so it can be used for all kinds of fly patterns.
